Larnaca old city , Cyprus

Larnaca one of the 20 oldest cities in the world that are still inhabited, according to the Telegraph newspaper


Larnaca has recently been included in the list of the 20 oldest cities in the world that are still inhabited today. The list, compiled by the UK newspaper The Telegraph, also includes Jericho in the Palestinian Territories, Damascus and Aleppo in Syria, amongst others. According to the article published on the www.telegraph.co.uk, the first inhabitants settled in Larnaca in 1,400 BC. Fortunately, Larnaca is one of the few cities from the list, that is still a safe tourist destination.

The Larnaca council has recently approved the building of a new luxury hotel complex on the coastal front of Finikoudes. The project worth over €80 million will be financed by investors from Russia- along with an agreement that a substantial amount of the €80 million, going towards the smartening up of the coastal front.

Another big project in Larnaca will be the setting up of a new open market in the town.
Larnaca is fast becoming a popular tourist destination with the recent improvements in the tourism and town's infrastructure. Along with this, the moving of the oil and gas storage facilities from The Dhekelia road area of Larnaca, to Vasilikos near Limassol, is boosting property demand and tourism.

RYANAIR LANDS AT LARNACA AIRPORT CYPRUS

Ryanair The Irish low cost budget carrier, is starting 2 new routes from Larnaca Airport from the 1st December 2010. This adds to a large number of airlines already using the New Larnaca Airport. They will fly from Larnaca to Girona (about 60 miles north of Barcelona, Spain) and also to Brussels. Prices currently start at 16.99 euro oneway including taxes and charges! Blue Air the Romanian low cost carrier also offers very cheap fares from Larnaca direct to Bucharest, Romania.
